Information about the city
Poznan is a flourishing city located in Western Poland, the capital of the Wielkopolska Province. It is located half way between Berlin and Warsaw on the international route 5
E30) running from Berlin to Poznan and Warsaw. The city extends over 261.3 square kilometers and is home to a population of some 600,000. Poznan is one of the richest cities in historical monuments in Poland, both in terms of their value and number. The most valuable ones are concentrated in three areas: the island of Ostrów Tumski (Cathedral Island), the Old Town and the Centre where The Greater Cancer Centre is situated. In addition, Poznan belongs to the select group of cities that boast examples of all architectural periods - from the Romanesque, through Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque to the eclectic and the modernist.
Poznań is also a perfect place for the pursuit of active recreation. Near the centre are lakes with designated swimming areas, forests with bicycle and hiking trails and an artificial ski slope and sled track open year round. The city center is the site of the Old ZOO, which is one of the oldest such facilities in Poland. The zoo features an aquarium, a reptile house and a bird house. Poznań offers a multiple of tennis courts, swimming pools, bowling centers, weight rooks, gyms, recreational centers, horse riding clubs, two golf courses and an archery range.
